What Can a Public Health Associate Degree Teach You?
Because public health is such a broad field, many students branch out into various specialties after learning about public policy, disease control, statistics, nutrition, and basic social work. You can either focus more specifically in the above areas or you can specialize in AIDS prevention, family services, hospice care, legislation, legal studies, sex education, social equality and numerous other public-health related disciplines. There is no shortage of problems facing local communities, and thus, there is no shortage of ways in which you can help. To become even more effective as a public health professional, be sure to supplement your training with sufficient computer science. Information technology is rapidly changing how communities confront the problems that they face.

Most public health positions are either directly with local, state, or federal agencies or with private and non-profit entities partially funded by tax dollars. Working with schools, communities, hospitals, and businesses, you help policymakers and citizens create programs that boost economic growth while simultaneously reducing unemployment, disease, violence, and crime. Depending on the type of career you want to pursue, licensing and certification may be required.
